Since his initial induction in 2007, the Argentinean star has set a precedent by consecutively making the FIFPRO Team of the Year for an unprecedented 17 years. However, the previous year marked the end of this streak as he was omitted from the elite list. In the most recent couple of seasons, Messi has once more been named among the candidates for the prestigious team, marking his 20th nomination for the distinguished squad.
